CD covers (further analysis)

I have looked through a book called '1000 record covers' by Michael Ochs (Taschen). From this book ive found a variety of album / CD covers which I have found visually impressive and also they relate to my artist in some ways. They each represent different aspects of my chosen artist 'Alison'. For example they represent they way she produces her music and also the way in which her personality is constructed.

Here is a photo of the front cover of the book I used to find the album covers:

Shown below are the CD cover images that ive found within the book :

Buffalo Springfield CD cover

I believe that the way in which this CD cover is constructed is good way of showing the band / artist without being too much in your face. This album cover relates to my artist as its very artistic and also relates to art work / especially naturalistic art work, which strongly reflects Alison's personality.

what ideas can I take from this CD cover and use in my digi-pack?

I will try and use the same effect as this album cover. What I mean by effect is the way in which this CD cover is constructed. The location used for this CD cover is good, with the woodland / nature theme and I will likely base this idea on the photo shoot for my digi-pack. I also like the font on the cover of this CD as its very stylistic and yet again reflects Alison's style of work, both with her poems and music.

The Stranglers CD cover

I believe that the silhouette effect on the image works really well on this CD cover. Its a great effect which draws the audience in without giving to much away about the artists / band, which gives them a mysterious unknown feel.

What ideas can I take from this CD cover and use in my digi-pack?

I will most likely take forward the idea of using the silhouette effect for the image that I will use on my CD cover / digi-pack. The image that I will place this effect on is an image of Alison touching the nature around her (such as a tree or flowers) within a woodland area. Or I will do a silhouette of her sitting at her piano in the woods (a box will be used for the photo and when I edit it into a silhouette the box will look like her piano)

The Siegal Schwall band CD cover

The way this CD cover is created is very artistic and relates well to a victorian type style but shows aspects of the band and reflects their type of music talent which to me seems to be folk type music.

What ideas can I take from this CD cover and use in my digi-pack?

I will maybe use the same effect as this CD cover image and do my digi-pack in the same sort of artistic style. As the victorian artistic style relates well to Alison's personal interests in victorian clothing, books, and art work. Also maybe I could use this kind of victorian style but instead reflect the victorian stye through Alison's clothing for the photo of the image that will be used on the front of my digi-pack CD.

Joan Baez/5 CD cover

I like the way in which this CD cover is a simple photo but it's the location which makes this CD cover / image stand out. Once again it is showing the nature style within this photo, and the similarity between nature and music etc. There has been little editing with this photo which keeps it simple but still looks good / effective.

What ideas can I take from this CD cover and use in my digi-pack?

I love the simplistic style of this photo, but still manages to express allot towards the audience about the music and the artist, just b simply using the surrounding area and by showing the artists instrument. I will take the simplicity concept from this CD cover and produce / take a very simplistic photo of Alison and edit it later on, but I will keep the photo shoot simplistic yet stylish *which will be expressed through in the editing stages of production*.
